MONOLYTH OF THE BATAN

It was placed in the stadium of Batan, as an initiative of the Caudal Football Club after the St Nicolas  Mining Shaft tragedy in 1995. The monolith is made on curved limestone , artificial stone and bronze, and is four meters tall. It has a base with prismatic shapes, a shaft with an inverted pyramidal log on which there is a cubic object ; the sides of this object are carved in low relief mining scenes . It also has a  pyramidal vault finished in spire .At the front part , a crown and a plaque are melted in bronze with an inscription on it:

“IN MEMORY OF THE FOURTEEN MINERS
WHO DIED IN THE ST NICOLAS  MINING SHAFT
AND TO THE ONES WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE ASTURIAN
MINES THROUGH THEIR HISTORY”
